Biography

Chuck Weller is a District Court Judge in the Family Division of the Second Judicial District Court, Department 11. He was first elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2010.

Judge Weller attended law school at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Since becoming judge, he studied and received a Masters Degree and a Ph.D in Judicial Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno. In 2013, he received the Nevada Supreme Court's highest recognition for judicial education, the Outstanding Achievement in Judicial Education Award.

Before he was a judge, he was an attorney in Reno for 21 years. He hosted a well-known radio show for 12 years called Chuck Weller and The Law on KKOH, a local talk radio station. For three years he wrote a weekly legal advice column in the Reno Gazette Journal. Judge Weller has continued to provide easy access to legal advice to the 70% of people who appear before the court without lawyers by assuming administrative responsibilities for the Family Court's Self-Help Center and Self Represented Litigant program.

Judge Weller writes, publishes and speaks on many areas of law and on Nevada history. He is credited with bringing Admiral Halsey's saddle, a World War II artifact built because of the donations of the people of Washoe County, back home to Nevada for the first time since 1946 for display during the State's Sesquicentennial Celebration.

Judge Weller has been married to his wife Roza Maria Weller for 28 years. She is an instructor at Truckee Meadows Community College and also a substitute teacher for the Washoe County School District. They are parents to two accomplished daughters: one is a graduate student at UNR and the other is at the University in Colorado. They also have two spritely dogs.
